This night is wild, so calm and dull

I just got a check in the mail for $250 from my job. Correction: a job that I haven't worked at since August of last year. I have NO idea why they sent me that check...but I'm not gonna complain! I'll be depositing that one directly into my checking account when I come back to NoVa this weekend. The sad thing is that I'm not even gonna buy anything exciting with the money, it's just going towards my next rent payment. It's especially sad when these shoes are calling my name. Sigh. I have pretty good luck with randomly finding and/or receiving money, actually. Examples: When I was home for spring break, I decided I was going to totally reorganize and clean my room. I found an old Coach wristlet and in it was $60. That totally made my day! And in the fall I received a check from my old university for a couple hundred dollars. They said it was some sort of refund, except the thing is, I never paid them anything. They basically paid me for leaving their school haha.

Like I wrote yesterday, I'm going home for the weekend tomorrow night. I'm so excited! I already have all of my outfits for the weekend picked out since it's going to be sooo warm out. Which means I'll actually be doing regular outfit posts. Exciting, I know. I'll leave you all with a little list of things I totally would buy if I didn't have to use that newfound money on rent:

The smell of you in every dream I dream

Outfit details: Floral button-down and blue tank: Abercrombie & Fitch; Jeans: 7 For All Mankind; Necklace: Brighton (gift). Not shown: shoes - Sperry.

I am absolutely LOVING the gorgeous weather we are experiencing here in Virginia. Although today wasn't the warmest it's been lately, the sky was still beautifully clear and sunny. Even with the occasional blast of annoying wind, I felt like skipping all the way to my classes. It's amazing how the weather can change your mood so quickly. Take yesterday, for example. It was cold and rainy and even when it wasn't raining, it was grey, overcast, and just plain ugly. And my mood totally matched that. So when I woke up today, totally expecting it to be raining, and found it bright and sunny, I just had to break out this new floral top I just got over spring break. I felt so spring-y and happy. :) Although after looking at these pictures I'm realizing how pale my skin is (which isn't anything new, let's be honest) but I need just a little bit of color on my cheeks to look healthier and so my freckles will really show.

I really wanted to wear a dress today but it was just a little too cold, but Thursday is supposed to be in the high 70's/low 80's so I'll definitely be breaking out a dress for the occasion. By the way, is anyone else super excited about Easter?? I'm going home Thursday evening for the weekend so I can spend the holiday with my parents and some of my siblings. My twin brother (yes, I have a twin) will also be home for the weekend from his school so I'm especially excited to see him. I think I love Easter so much because it always really feels like spring with all the pastel colors, bunnies, and birds decorating everything. And of course all the frilly dresses little girls (and not so little girls, like me) are wearing out and about. I have a new dress in my closet that I think will be absolutely perfect for Sunday. Speaking of Easter, the necklace I'm wearing in this post was a gift I found in my basket last year. It's hard to tell but it has a little canary on a swing inside the cage, which I find absolutely adorable. It's also engraved on the bottom with the words, "Listen to the song of your heart." I love details like that, and I'm a total sucker for jewelry with engravement. Well, it's been a long day, folks...so I'm off to watch an episode or two of Ghost Hunters (my guilty pleasure) and then go to sleep! Hope everyone's having a very happy week so far!

If I ever left this town, I'd never settle down

Today is just one of those days where I don't feel like doing anything...which comes at a horrible time since I have sooo much I have to do. I only have classes two days a week which sounds great (and it really can be great at times) but it totally sucks when all of my professors decide to pile on the exams during the same week since on Tuesdays I have 5 classes back-to-back from 8 AM to 7 PM, and Thursdays I have 4 in a row from 8 til 3. At least I have Monday, Wednesday, and Friday-Sunday to sleep in! Today, though, I had to wake up early to register for my one summer class. At first I was really annoyed that I would have to stay in Richmond for the summer when I should be back home working like crazy to save up for rent for next semester. But now, I'm kind of excited. I'll only be here for 6 weeks and since I only have one class, I can spend the rest of the time getting to know this exciting city that I have had yet to really explore.

The only thing getting me through this semester is knowing that I have huge plans for my life after college. Like moving to NYC (and hopefully attending grad school there). I've been going through pictures of NYC on WeHeartIt basically all day and it's making me chomp at the bit to get out of Virginia and into the Big Apple!! So I'll leave you all with some pictures that are making me long to leave this place and venture out into New York City:

Rock me mama like the wind and the rain

Last night I ended up going out to a couple parties with one of my close friends, Anna. I go out with her just about every weekend...she's the first friend I made on my own when I transferred here, and we're planning on living together next year. The one thing I was most worried about when I transferred schools was that I wouldn't make friends. I'm insanely shy and I was afraid that would totally hurt me, but luckily I've come out of my shell a little bit and have met some amazing people. Hopefully that will transfer over to this little blog :)

Now onto the outfit: I've been gravitating towards prints and flowy fabrics lately, which is strange because I usually love pieces with a lot of structure. I think having such a long, snowy winter has made me so excited to break out the bright colors and light fabrics that come along with warm weather. The pieces I've been buying lately all have had a 60's or 70's feel to them and whenever I wear them back home, my dad is always there to comment on my latest 'hippie' shirt. I totally take it as a compliment.

Yes, I'm in my bathroom. Attractive, right? Trust me, it was 2 AM and that was the best and cleanest option in my house.

Outfit details:

Printed blouse, blue tank, and braided belt: Abercrombie & Fitch. Jeans: Citizens of Humanity. Earrings and bracelet: this little Thai shop in Greenwich Village. Blue necklace: Lori McLean in NYC. Owl necklace: Urban Outfitters

The jewelry I'm wearing in this post are all really special to me. The bracelet and earrings were bought for me when I was in NYC last summer (the trip was a gift for my birthday) with my mom when we went in this really cool shop in Greenwich Village. The blue necklace is one my favorite pieces of jewelry that I own. My mom and I saw that one also in Greenwich Village in the Lori McLean boutique (probably the most adorable shop I have ever been in). For some reason, that necklace stuck with both my mom and me for months after the trip and I was ecstatic when I found it under our Christmas tree, months after I initially gushed over it. Whenever I wear it, it reminds me the few days I got to spend with my mom in my favorite city. The little gold owl necklace is one that I've worn basically everyday since I bought it about a month ago. I have a thing for owls and love animal jewelry, so you'll definitely be seeing more of that necklace (and hearing more about my obsession with owls) in this blog. I hope everyone is having a fun and relaxing weekend! It's time for me to get back to studying for my exams--ugh.

take all your big plans and break them

Okay so it looks like it's going to be another day of not getting dressed. At least not until tonight when I may go out with some friends. But this is why:

This is what my afternoon will consist of...studying for my upcoming social work exam as well as a criminal law exam, with a Pandora playlist on in the background.

And here's my pseudo outfit post...shorts, a t-shirt, and my glasses. No makeup and unbrushed hair. I love it. I really do take pictures, I promise (just take a look at the memo board behind my head!!). Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far and hopefully I'll actually get dressed tonight and take pictures to prove it. :)

I swear I'm here to stay this time...

Wow I really didn't mean to be gone for so long. I hate giving excuses but here's one anyway: this semester has surprisingly been crazy busy. I thought it was going to be a pretty easy one, but not so much. Oh well. Plus I've been dealing with college drama. But I'm totally moving past that and putting more effort into this blog, I promise!!

Today I didn't actually get dressed so there's no outfit pictures to post. It was a lazy day of sleeping in, studying for upcoming exams, and watching old episodes of Ghost Hunters. I really need to get better about updating this blog and actually putting thought into my outfits in the morning. Ugh. Anyway, I'm absolutely loving the warm weather we've been getting here in Virginia. Here are a few items I'm coveting at the moment:

The Style Survivor Dress - Modcloth

Chirp if You're Chic Necklace - Modcloth

Pink Studio sandals - Ruche

That's all for tonight/this morning! I have to get to bed so I can wake up bright and early to study :( There will be more later, I pinky promise this time!!
